It didn’t take long for Google to begin the process of leveraging its $700 million acquisition of ITA Software. Interestingly though, Google advises that the schedule search results are not served up (yet) by any ITA Software technology. Clearly there is still lots for Google and ITA engineers to do here: for instance the listing below shows no fares and pricing.
Google has made lots of noise about bringing its renowned search expertise to the esoteric world of travel shopping. So, the recently cleared purchase of ITA Software brings Google much needed “synergy” – ITA will give the company a fine flight and routes shopping platform, but more importantly a depth of experience in the travel vertical. I’m sure Global Distribution Systems (GDS) such as Sabre, Amadeus and Travelport will be continuing to watch Google’s gradual evolution into the travel space with eagle eyes and some trepidation.
