The phrase “internet of things” has come and gone over the last few years. Well, now courtesy of Cisco “internet of things” has made a comeback. Internet of things refers to all plethora of devices connected to the internet, rather than people. The ‘things’ in question here might be RFID tags, remote sensors, monitors, household appliances, industrial equipment, cars, animals, the list goes on. Cisco projects that there will be around 50 billion things connected to the internet by 2050. Now, if that’s not a case for more rapid roll-out of IPv6, the successor to the current internet protocol.
